Sections
- Title
- Buying it
- Synopsis
- This first programme looks at our innate motivations for making a purchase. As one expert points out, reasons can range from our upbringing and personal psychology, to a case of compensatory consumption, in which something is consumed, or purchased, to compensate for depression or sense of incompleteness. Typically masculine and feminine traits are uncovered and attitudes to purchasing everything from designer clothes and limited edition trainers to kitchen suites are covered.
- Title
- Selling it
- Synopsis
- This part examines the ‘tricks of the trade’. These range from establishing a false feeling of exclusivity, to the actual physicality of how best to sell something. Case studies range from New York boutiques to Bluewater, one of Europe’s largest shopping arcades.
