Curtain Up: Remembering Edinburgh’s Cinemas

Synopsis
In 1929 Edinburgh had more than thirty cinemas but was eagerly awaiting the opening of yet another one. This time it would be The Playhouse, a large cinema seating 3000. CURTAIN UP is the story of The Playhouse that provided some of the most exciting examples of film, theatre and live music ever to be seen in Scotland. Also featuring the New Palace Theatre, Greenlaw, the new home for the unique Hilsdon Theatre Organ being restored by the Scottish Theatre Organ Preservation Society. The concludes with Laurel and Hardy’s 1932 visit , with organ accompaniment.

Also included on the video are EDINBURGH’S SILVER SCREENS and MATINEE MEMORIES.
