Structural Engineers Shape the World
- Synopsis
- The video has been produced by the Institution of Structural Engineers to promote the profession and the Institution. It highlights the ways in which structural engineers shape the built environment and the enormous impact this has on our everyday lives. Presented by former IStructE President Dr John Roberts, the video features footage of some of the most exciting and challenging structures built in the last few years, including the Millennium Dome, the BA London Eye, structures in Hong Kong, Australia and more. Dr Roberts explains what structural engineers do, emphasising the variety and challenges: "It is one of the few professions where you can combine real technical skills with artistic flair". Structural engineers are shown to be people who enjoy innovation, opportunities, responsibility and excitement, whilst working within a creative profession. The role of the Institution is also described.
