- Synopsis
- A chronological look at 100 20th-century public art works including statues, war memorials, architectural decorations, tombs, murals, earthworks and other objects. Begins with Tohmas Brock’s ‘Queen Victoria Memorial’ under construction in 1905, and ends with Marc Quinn’s ‘Alison Lapper Pregnant’ in Trafalgar Square. The film features works by Barbara Hepworth, Jacob Epstein, Eric Gill, Henry Moore, Richard Deacon, Anish Kapoor and Rachel Whiteread. Some of the works are famous, many more are completelely forgotten, but all are accessible to the public. Introduced by critics or the artists themselves, they tell stories of patronage, controversy or vandalism through time.
