Synopsis
This first part concentrates on the exterior of the home and documents the stages of construction: foundation, framing, drainage, roofing, cladding, and much more. Professional tradesman are involved at every phase of the building process, including excavation of the hole, preparation of the foundation forms for concrete, framing the walls, placement of roof trusses, and final roofing. It also gives students a first-hand look at the variety of occupations involved in the construction of a house.

Interior, The
Synopsis
This second part focuses on the construction and finishing of the interior of a wood-frame house. Students will see the installation of plumbing and drainage pipe throughout the house. Hot water radiant floor heating is installed, then the electricians string cable and install fixtures. Glass fibre insulation comes next, then gyprocking and paint. A variety of floors are installed: marble tile, pre-finished hardwood, and carpet. One segment is devoted to final carpentry and includes installation of kitchen cabinets and the hanging of doors. The programme ends with the family moving in. Also offers a view of the great variety of skilled tradesmen involved.
