Green Timber Buildings (Historic English Carpentry)

Synopsis: The UK has a fine inheritance of timber architecture. For thousands of years timber was the predominant structural material for building. Human communities exploited their knowledge of woodland management to provide themselves with a continuously renewable suply of timber framing, the first known prefabricated structural building system. This film examines the beauty and legacy of the carpenter. It follows the development and building of a Cruck framed barn at Leigh Woods in Bristol and questions the relevance of this environmentally friendly vernacular tradition to the present day.
