Opening Doors

Synopsis
In this joint project by Lancaster University’s Workplace Basic Skills Network and the Learning and Skills Council of Greater Merseyside, adult learners talk about their experiences in improving their literacy and numeracy skills. Filmed at a learners’ forum in Merseyside and features six students, four tutors, a human resources manager, and a union learning representative. Discussion falls into sections covering questions such as what the learners got out of it, how they got started, what it was like and what employers need to do. Shows the great achievements made by the learners and how their confidence has grown both in the workplace and in day-to-day life. The union learning representative acts as a bridge between management and employees.
