Music Hall Days
- Synopsis
- Lionel Blair traces the origins of the Music Hall back to the days of the riotous Bartholomew Fayres of the Middle Ages through to the performers of the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens of the 19th Century. He begins the recordings from the foremost artists of the day, the legendary Marie Lloyd and Dan Leno through to the heyday of live performances from Arthur Askey, George Formby and Gracie Fields. The programme includes archive footage from the era and intersperses it with old recordings, memorabilia and in-depth discussions from the Music Hall authority Peter Gammond.
