Biomechanics
- Synopsis
- Explains how the physical laws of mechanics and the basic concepts of movement apply to human movement and performance. The video defines biomechanics and then deals with the following topics: 1) principles of force production - velocity, force, Newton’s Laws of Motion, inertia, acceleration, momentum, impulse, force absorbtion, conservation of momentum, elasticity, summation of momentum, accuracy, flattening the arc, friction; 2) joints and levers - three parts (axis, resistance and force) and three classes of lever, force arm and resistance arm, factors affecting use of external levers (length and inertia of lever, amount of force); 3) motion - linear, angular and general motion, factors affecting angular motion, factors affecting projectile motion, flight trajectory, air resistance, spin (the magus effect); 4) balance and stability - factors affecting balance and stability (size of base support, position of the centre of gravity, line of gravity, the mass of the body).
