Big Bang, The
- Synopsis
- An introduction to the Big Bang theory, explaining: how Hubble laid the foundation of the Big Bang theory when he discovered that distant galaxies were receding from the earth, indicated by the ‘red shift’/Doppler effect; how the theory maintains that the universe was formed 14 billion years ago in a cataclysmic explosion of pure energy with extremely high temperatures that expanded and cooled to form sub atomic particles, then hydrogen and helium, which gravity formed into billions of stars and galaxies; the supporting evidence for the Big Bang theory - the existence of residual cosmic background radiation from the Big Bang and the predominance of hydrogen throughout the universe today; the current standard model of the universe - examines the physics of the Big Bang and the development of stars and galaxies in more detail, and looks at the predicted existence of unknown forces of ‘dark matter’ and ‘dark energy’.
