Winged Migration

Synopsis
Documentary about the migratory patterns of birds stunningly filmed over three years using no special effects. 17 pilots and 14 cinematographers used planes, remote-controlled gliders, helicopters and balloons to fly with their subjects and have created an exquisite document of nature. Covering hundreds of thousands of miles and focusing on hundreds of different species, it celebrates the poetic beauty of flight. The film emphasises cinematography over natural history and gives little background to the onscreen action in the same way as MICROCOSMOS, by the same director..
