Title
Vuillard: memory lanes
Synopsis
The ‘Public Gardens’, painted by Vuillard in 1974, is a series of nine wall panels. Five of the panels are in the Orsay museum, three are in other museums, but the ninth has disappeared. Under the apparent simplicity of the subject matter, many historical and technical mysteries are hidden. The use of video tools enables some of these to be clarified and even the missing panel to be reconstructed. Made in 1990.

Title
Seurat: an orange green Utopia
Synopsis
'A Sunday on la Grande Jatte’ was exhibited by a 28-year-old unknown artist, Georges Seurat, at the last show of Impressionists in 1886. The classically-handled landscape populated with caricatured figures, caused some scandal. It led to the birth of the neo-impressionist group and influenced the later gauvist, cubist and futurist schools. Made in 1991.

Title
Toulouse-Lautrec: a fin de siecle legend
Synopsis
La Goulue, a famous can-can dancer, asked her friend Toulouse Lautrec for two paintings to decorate her booth. The two large canvases he created were later sold, cut into pieces and eventually restored in 1929. They were painted in petrol-diluted paint, making the pigments very flat and more vulnerable. Made in 1992.
