- A series originally shown on the Discovery Health Channel seeking to promote a greater understanding of the use of complementary therapies in treating a range of illnesses in children. Each programme deals with a specific illness and health practitioners, all belonging to recognised medical associations, are shown working with the case studies.
The series promotes the idea of helping children to strengthen their immune system at an early age for a healthy later life.
This programme features Dr Smallbone, GP and health writer on allergies and intolerances.
The case of a child who failed to gain weight as a baby and was diagnosed as having lactose intolerance. Despite a lactose-free diet she failed to thrive and at the age of 6 was tested by a kinesiologist who found she was intolerant to dairy, sugar, wheat and additives. Within twelve weeks of starting to use a combination of foods, herbs and supplements to rebalance and build up her immune system she improved dramatically. The second case study features a child who had no illnesses until the age of 18 months when she caught whooping cough, despite having been vaccinated. This led to a spiral of allergy-related symptoms, asthma and eczema. Allergy tests proved she was allergic to dogs, cats, some pollen and house dust mites. Her GP advised that children have allergies and there was nothing to be done. A homeopath then administered homeopathic remedies to redress the immune system imbalance and a reflexologist worked on her endocrine system, especially the adrenal glands, and her eczema has not recurred. - Series
