Ghostwatch

Synopsis
This video release of BBC Television’s controversial Halloween special marks the first appearance of the programme in any media since its first and only transmission in 1992. So convincing was this ‘live’ telecast from a haunted house in North London that, according to the press at least in the days following transmission, it caused a wave of panic among the British viewing public similar to that in the USA following Orson Welles’ radio broadcast of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS in the Thirties. The viewers aired their anger and distress on POINTS OF VIEW, BITEBACK, on the radio and in the press, and in thousands of personal letters and phone calls to the BBC.

DVD extras include a commentary by Stephen Volk, Ruth Baumgarten and Lesley Manning, SHOOTING REALITY by Lesley Manning, plus DVD ROM content of Stephen Volk’s original treatment, screenplay, and a ghost story.
