Saturday Night and Sunday Morning

Synopsis
Adapted by Alan Sillitoe from his novel about an angry young man. Arthur Seaton is a young labourer who just wants to get through the week and raise hell at the weekend. Albert Finney’s performance as the anti-hero is the prototype for alienated youth in social-realist films that followed. The film’s frank approach to sex and class trampled taboos and introduced audiences to a socially conscious, aggressively working class cinema.

NB New high-definition transfer version released in Feb 2009 on DVD and Blu-( ref no. BFIB1004, priced £22.99).
