Bushman, The: Polyphonies from the Kalahari Desert
- Synopsis
- A performance by The Bushman of Namibia at the Festival L’Imaginaire. The group are Ju’hoansi and live in the north of the Kalahari. Each community has its own musical repertoires using hand-clapping, shakers, metal percussion instruments and clicking to give rhythm to the songs. The music today, as in the past, accompanies rituals (initiation of boys and girls to adulthood, hunting, preventive medicine) and the rhythm of daily life (games, recreations, cradle rocking). The concert includes the healing chant, bow music, chant of the initiation of women, musif for the lamellophone, and the hunting chant.
