Angry Eye, The
- Synopsis
- Jane Elliott has developed a further video that provides a framework for dealing with issues of prejudice in both educational and corporate settings, based on her famous Blue-Eyed/Brown-Eyed exercise in discrimination. (Previous videos covering this are THE EYE OF THE STORM, A CLASS DIVIDED and BLUE-EYED.) Elliott’s eye colour exercise began in 1968 to help teach her class of 10-year-olds about racism after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. In this programme the tables are turned on white American College students as they are forced to experience the same kind of racist treatment African Americans and other minorities have been receiving for years. In the documentary, students’ reactions are intercut with Elliott’s observations. The film is disturbing; both for the participants and for the viewers, who are made to confront their own prejudices.
