Computers in Accounting

Synopsis
An explanation of accounting systems and what they do. Bill Brookman Productions is a small street-theatre company that uses Sage for their accounts. The basic elements of sales, purchase and nominal ledgers are explained, including invoicing. The concept of double-entry bookkeeping is also covered briefly. The programme goes on to look at the accounting systems at Clinton Cards and the massive Arcadia Group, owners of several big high street chains. Big as they are, the same basic principles apply to these just as much as to small businesses. Management information is also a vital product of accounting systems.
