Child Observation No. 3: Reception Group

Synopsis
Provides a continuous ten-minute sequence of five 4- and 5-year-olds seated round a table in an infant school classroom. The sequence is presented first without interruption so that it can be used to practise observing with a variety of objectives (social behaviour, concentration, language development etc.) Two children are then picked out, one socially confident, the other withdrawn, and the sequence is observed in detail showing how to record one child at a time. Evaluations based on the observations follow. A pack accompanying this tape includes teacher’s notes and photocopyable empty and filled in target child observation forms to aid observations.
