Watch the Baby
- Synopsis
- Follows two babies and their families throughout their first year of life showing how they learn to communicate. As well as showing how the pre-verbal communication skills allow others to have an understanding of the baby’s needs, the film shows how they are the basis for the future use of words. The pre-verbal stages of speech development are shown very clearly - the importance of eye contact, facial expression, use of the hands and gestures, taking turns, listening, practising sounds, copying and learning what sounds mean. Also shows the sort of situations that encourage communication. The tape ends at twelve months, just before the first words appear.
