Sherborne Missal, The

Synopsis
The Sherborne Missal, which included illustrations of British birds in its decorative borders, is the largest, most lavishly decorated late-medieval service book to have survived. It contains 694 parchment pages of elaborate Gothic script, musical notation and a whole gallery of illuminated images.

The CD-ROM features 32 pages from the Sherborne Missal, which the viewer can ‘turn’ using the computer mouse to click and drag the page. In addition there are zoom facilities and accompanying text about each page and an illustrated essay by Michelle Brown, Curatior of Illuminated Manuscripts at the BL, explaining the history and significance of the Missal. The CD-ROM also features bird sounds and medieval music.
