Synopsis
Following the First World War, the British Empire appeared to be bigger and stronger than ever. Yet signs of weakness were appearing, as Gandhi and Nehru led an Indian nationalist movement. The Second World War pulled the colonies together in battle, but victory spelled the beginning of the end for the Empire. This episode includes rare footage of the Delhi Durbar of 1911, a spectacular event marking a visit to India by the newly crowned George V, filmed by Charles Urban and recently rediscovered in the Russian State Film Archive.
