Waste and Energy Management for Small and Medium Enterprises: Four Case Studies

Synopsis
Four very different companies demonstrate the action they have taken to introduce waste and energy management systems into the running of their operations. The demands of the supply chain, the financial implications and the contribution such systems can make to building a competitive business are all factors in the decision making described by proprietors, directors and others with responsibility for implementing change in these businesses. Common themes can be found in the way all four companies are looking to the future and the video concludes with a sequence in which all the participants identify key development issues and points for discussion.

Case Study 1 Dan Dairies is a small dairy in Leeds which becomes the first in Europe to gain the environmental standard ISO 14001.

Case Study 2 Greenwich Organic Foods is a young retail company seeking advice on cost-effective methods to put their ideals into practice.

Case Study 3 Othens On-Line is an inner city photographic processing laboratory forced by local regulations to change its systems.

Case Study 4 Airedale International Air-Conditioning is a medium sized engineering company where supply chain demands led to the appointment of an environmental officer and implemention of waste and energy management throughout the company. The point of view of one of Airedale’s large customers, Ericssons, is put forward from their Stockholm Head Office.
