Synopsis
The INSIDE BRITISH POLITICS series of seven programmes was compiled from an archive of material recorded by Granada Television since 1971. The presenter, the late John Mackintosh, was Professor of Politics at the University of Edinburgh and MP for Berwick and East Lothian.
In 1976 Hammersmith Borough Council spent £38m of public money. The government was threatening to withhold its grants for the next year to those offending local authorities who refused to sharply limit growth in spend on lcal services. This programme shows the talks, private meetings and public debates within Hammersmith Council and the Council’s reaction to government policy.
