Series attempting to define and explain culture by looking at its elements, using examples from around the world.
1: How culture develops as a result of the geographical elements of topography, climate and natural resources. Uses examples as varied as people living high in the Himalayan mountaains or deep in the Australian outback.
2: How art, music, history and religion assist in shaping cultural beliefs and values. Looks at cross-cultural interaction and how modern technology is changing cultures world-wide.
3: How the economic activities of a culture influence other aspects of cultural behaviour. Explores cultures as varied as Egypt and Norway to make points about a culture’s economic activities through the serviice, industry and agriculture sectors.
4: How various social organisations influence members of a culture, including family, work, religious and educational groups. Also deals with different governmental and political philosophies adopted by a culture. Also demonstrates the functions of ethnic groups within a culture and how they allow immigrants the ability to retain ties to their heritage while assimilating a new culture.
