How They Built the Channel Tunnel

Synopsis
The Channel Tunnel was the largest single construction project in Europe and it took five years to build. This programme investigates the science and technology that made the project possible, and reflects the motivations and feelings of the men who worked on it. At two points huge crossover caverns were built where trains can cross from one track to another. Shows the danger and complexity of making a hole the size of two football pitches, 40 metres beneath the sea bed and 8km from the coast.
