Synopsis
Shows how houses, even houses in ruins, can reveal a suprising amount about the political power and ambition of their builders. Examines the ruins of the Earl of Strafford’s enoumous house, Jigginstown in Ireland; the building work done by the Earl of Pembroke at Wilton; Nicholas Fouquet and Vaux-le-Vicomte; the Earl of Montagu at Boughton House; the Earl of Nottingham at Burley on the Hill.
