Hot Jam in the Doughnut
- Synopsis
- Looks at nuclear fusion, the reaction that powers every star. It proises cheap, clean an safe nuclear energy, but over the years, fusion power had eluded the grasp of scientists. Fusion is now achieved regularly, though not yet efficiently. Supporters maintain that sufficient funding could achieve a breakthrough, though opponents support renewable sources of energy. A new fusion experiment, the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) is being planned as a collaboration between Europe, the USA, Japan and Russia; the decision to go all out for fusion or cut back must be taken soon.
