Homo Urbanus: Habitat II and Beyond

Synopsis
With over half the entire population living in towns and cities for the first time in history, the UN Conference on Human Settlements, Habitat II, was held in Istanbul in June 1996 to celebrate a new human species: ‘Homo urbanus’. A visual celebration of the conference, the film shows the relevance of this event to the average citizen and explains the importance of the Habitat agenda for the future of the world’s cities. Through interviews and footage of projects around the world, it is seen how partnership between the government, local authorities, the private sector, NGOs and the community can help improve our cities.
