Holmwood House

Synopsis
A virtual tour of Holmwood House, a villa designed by Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson and built in 1957-58 near Glasgow. Built in a modern, abstracted version of the architectural language of the Greeks, and decorated internally in bold primary colours, it has been acclaimed as ‘one of the most important and experimental of 19th-century Scottish interiors’. Uses QuickTime software and interactive floor plans, 250 images and 200 screens of information for a room-by-room tour. Describes the conservation work undertaken by the present owners, the National Trust for Scotland. Illustrated accounts of Glasgow in the 19th century and of Thomson and his other work in the city place Holmwood in its broader context.
