Synopsis

Studies the six engravings of Hogarth’s ‘Marriage a-la-Mode’ series in detail, looking at their portrayal of adultery, venereal disease, murder and suicide, and placing them in the context of his other works. Hogarth painted the scenes in 1743, and the engravings followed two years later.
