Synopsis
An introduction to human biology in six parts:
1: An orthopaedic surgeon assembles a human skeleton, bone by bone, using graphics and animation techniques. Specialists add to the form, organ by organ, system by system - muscles, nerves and a brain, a heart and blood vessels, glands and a digestive system. The newly formed ‘human’ acts as a guide to the rest of the series.
2: Conception and birth. Anatomy and physiology of the newborn. Muscles. Brain and nervous system.
Heart, the circulatory system, the respiratory system and the skin.
4: Respiration, blood pressure, nutrition, digestion, metabolism, smell, taste and sight.
5: Speech and hearing. The immune system and immunisation. Endocrine system and hormones. Urinary system. Male and female reproduction systems.
6: Physical and mental changes of ageing. Menopause. Benefits of healthy lifestyle.
