Growth Failure and Maternal Deprivation

Synopsis
Shows that physical and mental retardation in children may often result from a lack of parental attention, especially from the mother. Shows essential clinical features of infantile marasmus in two children, one of 13 months and one almost four years old. Describes the circumstances under which these children lived, most notably those aspects of the mother-child relationship thought to be responsible for their failure to grow and develop normally. The real substance of the film concerns the children’s presenting symptoms, and recovery under hospital care.*
