Growth and Development of Children, The

Synopsis
Demonstrates the correlation of physical growth and intellectual development by comparing the measurements of children at different ages with graphs showing academic ability. The differences between individuals, groups of children and the sexes can be observed. Some pathological deviations from the norm and the effects of continuous treatment with human growth hormone in a case of pituitary dwarfism are shown. The studies are used in diagnostic procedures.
Much of the subject matter covered by the film is discussed in Dr Tanner’s book, ‘Education and Physical Growth’ (University of London Press, 1961).
