Great Depression, The

Synopsis
Examines the slump of the 1930s and its social consequences, within the context of general political and cultural change. Examines the Depression both as a national and international phenomenon: its impact on old manufacturing industries; the growing politicization of society in the context of the Depression; its political impact contrasted in different national circumstances. Consists entirely of contemporary material selected and edited to illustrate the kind of film actually seen in the 1930s. Archival material from Visnews, Imperial War Museum, Pathé, Movietone.
