Animal Tests in Vaccine Control
- Synopsis
- Vaccines against whooping cough, diphtheria, tetanus and tuberculosis require testing for potency and safety. This requires the frequest use of laboratory animals according to suitable regulations. The programme shows the breeding of each of the four bacterial types and also of the rabies virus and the testing of the vaccines on mice and guinea pigs, with explanations of the administering technique, reference and systems. When possible, alternative tests are used. These are less stressful for the animals in that they use cell cultures for lethal doses.
