Granton Trawler
- Synopsis
- Shows a trawler out fishing on the Viking Bank. ‘In the thirties we were all in it together,' Grierson said. ‘We could all edit well. We could all write well. There was no part we couldn’t do, even camera work. The one credit I was absolutely insistent on was putting my name as cameramen on GRANTON TRAWLER. I had to put my name on because there was nobody else on the picture except me. It was a solo effort. It’s a sweet little film’. ‘Although normally a very good sailor, Grierson had been terribly seasick on the trip’, Edgar Anstey recalls. ‘What I found exciting - it’s still in the film - was that where, because of the rough seas, the camera had fallen over and Grierson was perhaps too sick to save it, you got absolutely wonderful shots for a storm sequence, whirling sky and sea’. Although uncredited, Cavalcanti is known to have added the sound track of simple noises and snatches of Scots conversation.
