Gothic Cathedral, The: A Landmark in Engineering

Synopsis
Compares the structure of the Gothic cathedral with earlier structures of Egypt, Greece and Rome, identifying the constituent elements and discussing the contribution made by each to the stability of the cathedral. A section deals with the management of the medieval construction site and the problems of maintenance. The programme was shot on location at Ely Cathedral.
