Gimme Shelter

Synopsis: Following the government’s tightening of the rules on immigration, the number of people seeking asylum in the UK has dropped significantly. While some believe that the rules do not go far enough, others are concerned that in trying to stop ‘bogus’ applicants, Britain is not fulfilling its moral obligation to large mumbers of genuine cases. Joan Bakewell discusses the issue with Yasmin Aibhai-Brown, Bruce Anderson, Michael Stephen MP, Darcus Howe, Nick Hardwick and David Haslam.
