Geological Map Skills

Synopsis
A CAL module for teaching students how to extract information about fundamental geological relationships from geological maps, based on the Ten-Mile Geological Map of Great Britain. Tutorials look at scale, grid references, index and explanation, stratigraphic column, strike and dip, principle of superposition, outcrop width, true and apparent thickness, folds, dip of beds and valleys, unconformities, inliers and outliers. Exercises are related to regions of England and Scotland. Approximately 4 hours of teaching material, intended to complement lectures and practicals.
