Gateshead Shopping and Information Service, The

Synopsis
Examines the use of a Prestel system to deliver shopping and information services to disadvantaged and handicapped groups. It is based on experience in Gateshead with a co-operative shopping scheme involving the local Tesco supermarket and the local authority social service and library departments, The Gateshead Shopping and Information Service was introduced in 1980, was jointly organised by Tesco, Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council and the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and funded for three years by the Inner City Partnership.
