Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry

Synopsis
Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) is a sophisticated technique for the separation and identification of components of complex mixtures. Describes the technique and shows the apparatus. Emphasis is placed on the nature of the interface between the two component instruments and on the special requirements of the gas chromatography in GC/MS. The characteristics and advantages of the double beam mass spectrometer employed in this instrumentation are also described. The programme concludes by showing a sample being analysed by the technique.
