Angel is Missing

Alternative title
Peru: Angel is Missing
Synopsis
With the restoration of democracy in Peru in 1980, a civil war raged between the military and the ‘Sendera Luminoso’ (Shining Path) guerrillas. Up to 15,000 Peruvians were killed and 10,000 kidnapped and ‘disappeared’ before Abimael Guzman Reynoso, the ‘Sendera’ leader, was finally captured in September 1992. One of the victims was Angel Escobar Jurado, a human rights worker who was preparing a dossier implicating the military in the ‘disappearance’ of peasants. Before he could publish his revelations he too went missing. This film explores Angel’s fate and the options left for his family.
