Frontlines Backyards

Synopsis
Explores the the cultural politics of the CNER Frontlines Backyards conference held on 6-7 December 1996. Draws on interviews with conference presenters and comments from attendees, looking at some of the key points of engagement with the changing agenda of race in Britain. Statements in music, drama, performance poetry and photography and material from a youth arts programe are interwoven with the debates. Raises questions about the potential and limitations of this kind of event in developing more effective strategies for tackling persistent forms of racial inequality in our society.
