- Synopsis
- Looks at coke-making and the early history of gas lighting, and includes material on a surviving gas works at Newton Stewart in Scotland. Animation shows how coal tar collects as a by-product. Discusses Mansfield’s method of tar distillation and the industrial production of benzene and aniline, leading to a discussion of the creation of the synthetic dyestuffs industry.
