Freshwater Jellyfish
- Synopsis
- Uses close-up photography, photomicrography, time-lapse photography and drawings to show the stages in the life cycle of a coelenterate, the freshwater jellyfish ‘Craspedacusta sowerbii’. Shows habitat, collection procedures, feeding behaviour and details of the attached polyp stage and free-swimming medusa stage. Illustrates sexual reproduction of the medusa stage and the three types of asexual reproduction: frustule formation, buds which remain attached to form a colony and buds which become medusae. Brief scenes of fossil jellyfish precede a summary with drawings of the life cycle and live-action photography.
