Four Holy Men: Renunciation in Hindu Society

Synopsis
Focuses on four Sadhus (holy men) as a means of portraying the variety of devotional paths open to religious Hindus and examining the Sadhus’ role in present-day Indian society. The bulk of the film consists of interview material with the Sadhus, interspersed with scenes from their lives and religious practices and discusses the relationship each maintains with the secular world. The film concludes with a short statement from Dr Baidyanath Saraswati concerning renunciation as a religious principle and his own aspirations towards asceticism.
