Synopsis
Drawn from a workshop involving a group of postgraduate students of drama in education and a group of spastic teenagers with two of their teachers, including Dorothy Heathcote. They attend Beaumont College, Lancaster, a specialised college of further education for spastic children. Discusses the use of drama in education; the process of acting and interpretation of meaning; the role of the teacher in conferring power on the students/actors to enable them to influence their audience. Deals with practical difficulties relating to this specific workshop. Shows a segment of a rehearsal of ‘Hiawatha’, one of the week’s drama projects ‘Hiawatha’. Aims to enable the viewer to examine this segment of the project as it develops through the rehearsal period.
