Synopsis
Uses shop-floor footage and animations to illustrate the two primary types of forging - open-die and impression-die forging. Explains the advantages and limitations of each process, as well as common applications, die types, tools, accessories, handling equipment, automation and parts produced. Illustrates the various properties of forgeable metals, factors that affect their forgeability, and the effect of computers on the forging process. Also looks at other forging processes including ring rolling, hot-die forging and isothermal forging.
