For Spares or Repair

Synopsis
Examines how the field of genetics has been radically altered by the successful cloning of Dolly the sheep. Looks at the possibility of growing organs outside of the body for spare-part surgery, and also at the moral and philosophical questions raised by the seeming inevitability of human cloning. Discusses ideas of a ‘Frankenstein’ future and the real implications of our ever-greater control over mortality. Features Lord Winston and Professor Robert Edwards.
